He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in late 2009, and was forward deployed to Afghanistan. During his deployment, he assisted in recovering over 280 pieces of ordnance and bulk explosive charges, disposing of over one ton of explosives used in IEDs. In December 2009, Campbell lost his life on an overnight mission with his team where he identified an IED. He selflessly moved his team out of danger, placing himself between them and the IED before it detonated. Founded in 2007, the mission of Folds of Honor is to provide educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America's fallen or disabled service members and first responders. Since its inception, over 44,000 scholarships have been awarded.
