No. 8 Buckeyes Secure 4-0 Win over Purdue

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 8-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team shut out Purdue 4-0 Friday in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes are now 7-1 on the year and the Boilermakers are 7-2.

The Buckeye duo of Sydni Ratliff and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev completed a four-game comeback on court three. Paired with a win on court one from Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry, Ohio State secured the doubles point against Purdue.

Ohio State won the first three completed singles matches, with victories from Audrey Spencer, Perry and Chavez, to bring the Buckeyes to a 4-0 victory.

How it Happened

Despite keeping it neck and neck on all three doubles courts, Ohio State secured the doubles point to start the match.
The duo of Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez took the first doubles win followed by a Purdue win on court two.
The tandem of Sydni Ratliff and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev secured the doubles point for the Buckeyes after winning four games in a row to take the victory, 6-4.
No. 79-ranked Audrey Spencer posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ece Gencer on court five, putting the Buckeyes up 2-0.
No. 9 Perry brought the Buckeyes to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Fatima Gutierrez on court two.
On court one, Chavez followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Carmen Gallardo Guevera, clinching the match for the Buckeyes.
Before play was suspended, Nao Nishino and Ratliff were both leading in the second set of their singles matches. Alessia Cau claimed the first set and was on serve 4-5 in the second.
Perry and Chavez are 5-1 in doubles matches this spring to lead the Buckeyes.

The Schedule Ahead

The Buckeyes continue Big Ten play with a home match against Indiana at noon Sunday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
Ohio State is back on the road to face Michigan March 15 and Michigan State March 16.
