Defenseman had three points, +5 mark and five shot blocks in sweep of Wisconsin
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Damien Carfagna of the Ohio State men's hockey team was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week Tuesday. The defenseman had three points, a +5 mark and five shot blocks to help the Buckeyes to a sweep of Wisconsin.

Carfagna, from Wood-Ridge, N.J., was not on the ice for a goal against and helped the Buckeye penalty kill go 4-for-4 in the series vs. the Badgers. Ohio State allowed just three goals in the two games combined, with 4-1 and 4-2 wins.

Friday, Carfagna had the first assist on two goals in the final 4:24 of the second period, which tied the game and put the Buckeyes in the lead. He was on the ice for the empty net goal that sealed the win with nine seconds left in regulation. It was his fifth career two-assist game and his third this season. Carfagna was +3 and had three shot blocks in the victory.

Saturday, he scored the go-ahead goal with three minutes left in regulation and was on the ice for the empty net score with 10 seconds remaining. He was +2 and had two blocks.

Carfagna is tied for fourth in points for the Buckeyes with a career-best 22 this season, with a +11 rating and 44 shot blocks.

This week, No. 7/6 Ohio State hits the road for the final time in the regular season, traveling to No. 5/4 Minnesota. The teams will meet at 8 p.m. ET Friday and at 6 p.m. ET Saturday. B1G+ will stream the games and they can be heard on Ohio State Radio.
