COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State is set to host the ITA Kickoff Weekend this weekend inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Ohio State will take on Louisville at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning while Denver and Princeton will play at 1 p.m.
The winners will play in the championship match at noon on Sunday with the consolation match set for 9 a.m. The winner of the weekend will earn a spot in next month's ITA Team Indoor National Championship hosted by Baylor and SMU.
Admission and parking are free for all men’s tennis matches.
- The Buckeyes are hosting the ITA Kickoff Weekend for the 16th time, and this is the 17th time in which they will be competing in the event.
- Ohio State is 31-1 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The lone loss came to Virginia in the second round in 2021.
- Last year, the Buckeyes swept both Boise State and Vanderbilt 4-0 to earn a spot in the indoor national championship. They would then go on to win their third ITA Indoor Team National Championship.
- The Buckeyes have advanced to the final site every year except for 2021.
- Ohio State has a 15-1 record against Louisville. The Buckeyes’ only loss against Louisville came back in 1998 prior to Ty Tucker taking over as head coach. Under Tucker, the Buckeyes are 10-0 vs. the Cardinals, including the most recent win in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
- The Buckeyes have only played Princeton one time previously and that was a 7-2 loss at Princeton in 1984. Against Denver, the Buckeyes are 1-0, defeating the Pioneers in the opening match of the 2014 ITA Kick-Off.
- The Buckeyes opened the year with a pair of 4-0 sweeps over in-state foes Xavier and Toledo last weekend. This was the 40th consecutive win against Toledo and the Buckeyes are now 22-0 all-time against Xavier, surrendering just three points in those 22 matches.
- Four Buckeyes are ranked in the preseason singles rankings. Aidan Kim leads the way at No. 11, followed by Alexander Bernard at No. 46, Will Jansen at No. 64 and Chris Li at No. 107.
- In doubles, Jansen and Bryce Nakashima won a pair of matches at the NCAA Doubles Championship in the fall to earn their first All-America honors. The duo is ranked No. 25 in the preseason doubles rankings. Kim and Bernard are ranked No. 57 while Brandon Carpico and Preston Stearns are No. 73 and Carpico and Alex Fuchs are No. 119.
