Snyder Falls in Semifinals, Will Battle for Bronze Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In his third Olympics with USA Wrestling, Ohio State alum Kyle Snyder ((97kg) advanced to the semifinals Saturday with a pair of wins at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He then fell in the semifinals, sending him to the Bronze Medal bout Sunday. He will battle for his third medal in Olympic competition.
In the opening round, Snyder trailed 4-0 after the first period against Awusayiman Habila of China. In the second period, Snyder rallied, outscoring Habila 9-1 to take the bout 9-5 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Cuba's Arturo Silot Torres faced Snyder in the quarterfinals.
Snyder led 1-0 after the first period after Silot was put on the shot clock but did not score. With just over 30 seconds elapsed in the second, Snyder put Torres on his back to earn the fall to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Snyder faced Akhmed Tazhudinov of Bahrain.
Snyder scored first with a point when Tazhudinov failed to score on the clock. Tazhudinov countered with a takedown for a 2-1 advantage after the first period.
Snyder fell behind 6-1 after a takedown and turn by Tazhudinov. Snyder scored on a pushout and late takedown but fell 6-4.
He will now contend for a bronze medal against Amarali Azarpira of Iran Sunday. That Match will start at 6:35 a.m. The match will be streamed live on Peacock.
Snyder won Olympic Gold in 2016 (Rio) while still a member of the Ohio State Wrestling team. He then claimed Silver in 2020 (Tokyo).
