COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eight athletes with ties to the Ohio State swimming and diving program are in Paris to compete in the Olympics starting this weekend. Former Buckeyes Hunter Armstrong, Ciara McGing and Kristen Romano, current athletes Alex Axon, Lena Hentschel, Tristan Jankovics and Tomas Navikonis, and incoming Buckeye Emma Finlin are all set to compete in Paris.

- Hunter Armstrong claimed his second career Olympic gold medal, helping Team USA to a win in the 4x100 free relay. It was the first gold medal in Paris for Team USA. Armstrong swam a phenomenal third leg of 46.75 in the relay, the fastest split among the relay team. With Team USA in a tight race with China, Australia and Italy, Armstrong propelled the Americans ahead, getting more than a body length ahead at the end of his leg. Team USA finished in 3:09.28, over a second ahead of rival and silver-medalist Australia (3:10.35).
- Lena Hentschel and her diving partner, Jette Muller, placed sixth in the 3-meter synchronized dive finals, turning in a score of 288.69 for Team Germany.
- Tristan Jankovics, competing for Team Canada, recorded a time of 4:18.23 in the 400 IM prelims in his first career Olympic swim.
- Hunter Armstrong finished fifth in his 100 back prelims heat with a time of 53.34 to advance to the semifinals. He placed 11th in semifinals with a time of 53.11.
- Alex Axon and Team Canada turned in a total time of 7:12.07 during prelims.
- Tomas Navikonis and Team Lithuania finished in 7:16.61 in prelims. Navikonis' lead-off leg of 1:47.08 is an Ohio State 200 free program record, breaking his own record he had set earlier this summer.
- Kristen Romano won her heat of the 200 IM prelims, finishing in a time of 2:13.32.
- Hunter Armstrong won his second medal in Paris, helping Team USA to a second-place finish in the 4x100 medley relay. The Americans finished in a total time of 3:28.01. Armstrong swam the 100 free anchor leg, turning in a split of 47.19 to help the team clinch the silver medal.
- Ciara McGing made her Olympic debut for Team Ireland in the prelims of the 10-meter platform dive. She finished 29th in prelims with a score of 188.50.
- In her first career Olympic swim for Team Canada, incoming Buckeye Emma Finlin placed 23rd in the 10-kilometer open water swim in the Seine with a time of 2:22.06.5.
