The Buckeyes will begin the 2024-25 season ranked 14th among the nation’s best programs, according to the Associated Press.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Associated Press released its preseason women's basketball poll on Tuesday with the Buckeyes as No. 14 after Ohio State spent the entirety of last season in the top-25. The Buckeyes were selected to finish third in the conference by both the league's head coaches and media.
Ohio State captured its first outright regular season Big Ten title since 2009-10 during the 2023-24 season, finishing with a 16-2 conference record. The Buckeyes strung together 15-consecutive Big Ten wins (undefeated in January and February) for the program's second-longest conference win streak in history, only trailing the 1984-85 season when Ohio State was 18-0 in conference play. Head Coach Kevin McGuff was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by both the league's coaches and media, an honor he earned for the first time in his career. Ohio State earned a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010, playing host for the 14th time in program history and back-to-back seasons. Sheldon was named an All-American by multiple outlets, while McMahon was an honorable mention. A total of five players were named All-Big Ten, highlighted by Celeste Taylor's selection as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches.
Following the 2023-24 season, two Buckeyes were selected in the WNBA Draft for the first time since the 2018 draft and the third time in program history. Jacy Sheldon was selected fifth overall by the Dallas Wings, becoming the sixth player in program history to be drafted in the first round and the first since Kelsey Mitchell in 2018. Celeste Taylor was selected 15th overall by the Indiana Fever.
Ohio State begins the season on Nov. 5, hosting Cleveland State for a 6 p.m. tip. View the Buckeyes' 2024-25 schedule HERE.
