Waynesburg, Pa., native is first female recognized in eight-year history of Frank Fuhrur III Award
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rachel Rohanna, who recently concluded her freshman season with the Ohio State women’s golf team, was one of two recipients of the Frank Fuhrur III Award presented annually to the top college performers from the West Pennsylvania Golf Association. Rohanna, from Waynesburg, Pa., is the first female recognized in the eight-year history of the award and she shares the 2009-10 honor with John Popeck from the University of Maryland.
Rohanna was the No. 1 golfer in the Buckeye lineup for the majority of the season and finished with the lowest stroke average on the team at 75.24. She garnered First Team All-Big Ten honors and her score counted to the team total 31 out of 34 rounds played. Rohanna posted two top 5 finishes, including runner-up at Ohio State’s own Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, and had five top 20 finishes to lead the team.
The award given by the WPGA is named for Frank Fuhrer III, an outstanding player at University of North Carolina, from 1977-81. His collegiate honors include multiple All-ACC and All-America honors and he was a member of the 1981 Walker Cup team. Fuhrer played the PGA Tour and has won 12 WPGA championships.
