Men’s Basketball Downs the Harlem Globetrotters 106-82 In Exhibition Finale – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five Buckeyes reached double figures in Ohio State’s 106-82 victory over the Harlem Globetrotters Friday at Value City Arena. Senior guard Brent Darby led Ohio State with a double-double performance with 25 points and 11 assists. The Buckeyes finished 2-0 in exhibition play.
Ohio State hit eight on its first 11 shots from the field and added a pair of free throws during a 22-4 run to open the game. Senior Sean Connolly led the way for the Buckeyes, recording eight points on two 3-pointers and a layup.
Ohio State took a 52-25 lead at halftime. The Buckeye defense forced 12 turnovers in the first half and scored 23 points off those miscues. Ohio State also recorded six steals, including three by Darby. Darby and sophomore Terence Dials each tallied 12 points in the first half.
Point guard Brandon Fuss-Cheatham left the game in the first half with a hyper-extended left knee. He did not return in the second half as a precaution.
Connolly tallied 16 points including four 3-point field goals for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State shot 58.2 percent (39-67) from the field, including 7-of-18 from 3-point range. The squad connected on 87.5 percent of its foul shots (21-24) led by Darby’s 11-for-11 effort from the free-throw line.
The Ohio State bench contributed 47 points, including 14 from Dials and 10 from sophomore Matt Sylvester. Newcomer Emonte Jernigan scored 11 points in 19 minutes of action. Dials did not miss a shot in the contest, hitting six-of-six field goals and went two-for-two at the free-throw line.
Ohio State outrebounded the Globetrotters 40-20 and limited the ‘Trotters to five offensive boards.
The Buckeyes will open regular season play against Coppin State College at 8 p.m. Nov. 25.
