COLUMBUS, Ohio – For their performances in Ohio State’s 52-10 win over Michigan State on Saturday, two Buckeyes – quarterback Justin Fields and punter Drue Chrisman – have earned weekly awards from the Big Ten. Fields is the league’s Offensive Player of the Week while Chrisman is the co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Fields accounted for 303 yards of total offense and four total touchdowns on Saturday, including a career-high 104 on the ground with two touchdowns. He also completed 17 of 24 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions while directing an offense that finished with 521 total yards on the day.
The Kennesaw, Ga. native leads the Big Ten in passing efficiency (196.1), passing yards per game (281.4), completion percentage (78.1) and yards per attempt (10.3). In five games, he’s thrown 15 touchdown passes and just three interceptions.
Chrisman had another memorable game at Spartan Stadium. Following up on a performance in 2018 in which his punts pinned Michigan State inside the six yard line five times, Chrisman had two that landed inside the five yard line on Saturday. He averaged 53.4 yards on five punts, including a 74-yarder in the fourth quarter. It was Chrisman’s career-long as well as the eighth longest punt in Ohio State history.
Chrisman is second in the conference in yards per punt (45.1) on the season. On Saturday, he passed A.J. Trapasso for second place on the all-time list with 80 career punts inside the 20 yard line. Cameron Johnston (2013-16) holds the record with 109.
