Buckeyes Complete 2010-11 Wrestle Offs – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State wrestling team’s season-opening tournament at the Buffalo Open is only less than two weeks away and in preparation for the start of the campaign, the Buckeyes concluded their wrestle offs last Thursday Oct. 21 at French Field House.
The Buckeyes’ first home matches are Nov. 21 when they wrestle Pittsburgh at 11:30 a.m. followed by Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. in St. John Arena.
Nine of the 10 weight classes were contested, including the 125-pound “debut” of 2010 Junior Hodge Trophy winner Logan Stieber. Stieber won by a technical fall, 18-2, over redshirt freshman Josh Whitt.
Sophomore Ian Paddock, who made his first NCAA championships appearance this past spring at 133 pounds, also posted a technical fall victory, a 15-0 win against freshman Drew Stone.
It was a battle of the freshman at 141 pounds when Randy Languis edged classmate Joe Grandominico, 5-4.
Sean Nemec, who is entering his redshirt junior year in 2010-11, downed redshirt freshman Mike Fee, 11-1 at 149 pounds.
Fans will have to get accustomed to seeing senior Colt Sponseller wrestle at 157 pounds after spending the last three seasons wrestling at 165 pounds. Sponseller faced junior Daniel Foley and won 13-2.
At 165 pounds, redshirt junior Jared Kusar survived a 5-3 overtime decision over redshirt sophomore Kurt Tank.
The crowd got a glimpse of Nick Heflin, wrestling at 174 pounds and witnessed the redshirt freshman pin redshirt junior Max Sall.
Peter Capone, a redshirt freshman, also won by a fall, downing freshman Ray Gordon.
Wrapping up the evening, redshirt sophomore C.J. Magrum posted a 12-3 major decision over redshirt sophomore Dominic Jontony.
