COLUMBUS, Ohio–Ohio State senior guard Scoonie Penn (Sr., Salem, Mass./Salem) was selected by the Associated Press as one of the Top 5 players in the country. Penn was named to the AP First Team All-America Team along with Mateen Cleaves (Michigan State), Terence Morris (Maryland), Chris Porter (Auburn) and Quentin Richardson (DePaul).
The AP selection is just the latest preseason award for Penn. He also is listed on the first team preseason selections of Sport Magazine, Playboy, ESPN/USA Today, Basketball Times and Blue Ribbon. He also is a Street & Smith’s Preseason Player of the Year Candidate along with teammate Michael Redd (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/West).
Penn and Redd have been named the Nations’ Best Backcourt by both Street & Smith’s and ESPN. The duo was selected to the preseason First Team All-Big Ten squad by the conference coaches and Lindy’s.
