COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tommy Nappier, a sophomore goalie on the No. 6 Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Nappier, from St. Louis, Mo., backstopped the Buckeyes to a 1-0 victory at Colgate Saturday.
Against the Raiders, Nappier made 24 saves for his second shutout of the year and Ohio State’s second of the weekend. The game was scoreless until 10:08 of the third period, when Dakota Joshua put the Buckeyes on the board. Nappier had eight saves in the first period, 10 in the second and six in the third to preserve the win. He and the Buckeyes were 4-for-4 on the penalty kill in the game and he made seven saves on the PK.
This season, Nappier is second in the NCAA with a .957 save percentage this year and ranks fourth with a 1.32 goals-against average. The shutout was the third of his career and this is his second career weekly B1G honor.
Nappier and the Buckeyes (6-3-1, 1-1-0-0 B1G) open a four-game homestand with a series vs. Wisconsin this weekend. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena.
