COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman swimmer Zach Holmes has been named the Big Ten Conference’s Swimmer of the Week. This is the first weekly award for the freshman from Houston, Texas and Lamar High School.

Holmes was a standout in the water last week at the Ohio State Winter Invitational. He posted three top finishes for the Buckeyes in a non-scoring meet that included swimmers from Michigan, Purdue and Indiana at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Holmes captured two individual wins, setting NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times in the 100 free (44.37) and 200 free (1:21.18) events.

He also led off a winning 200 freestyle relay that established an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 1:38.01.

Ohio State hosts the 2010 Big Ten Conference championships Feb. 24-27 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
