COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Alec Yoder of the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team was named Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Week by the conference office after leading the Buckeyes to a win over defending B1G champion Penn State this past Saturday.

Yoder ranks No. 1 in the nation this season and No. 2 all-time at Ohio State on pommel horse after posting a score of 15.750 against the Nittany Lions. He added a runner-up rings score of 15.600 – No. 3 in the NCAA this year and fourth in the OSU record book – as well as a third-place finish on parallel bars and fifth-place performance on high bar.

Yoder’s efforts helped the Buckeyes to a school-record team total on rings (75.950) and the top team score in the nation this season on pommel horse (75.100).

The Gymnast of the Week award is the first of Yoder’s career and the third for an OSU gymnast this season. He was previously named Freshman of the Week after helping the Buckeyes to a win at Michigan.

Yoder and a select group of Buckeyes compete at the Winter Cup Challenge Feb. 18-20 in Las Vegas.
