COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brandon Wynn, a former Buckeye (2008-11) and two-time U.S. national rings champion, and Ohio State men’s gymnastics head coach Rustam Sharipov traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, Monday to represent the United States at the 2011 Pan American Games Oct. 24-29. Competition for the United States begins at 2 p.m. Oct. 25 with the men’s team finals and all-around and event qualifications.
“Our goal is to not just finish in the Top 3, but to be strong and win the Pan American Games and I think Brandon will have a big part of the team’s success,” said Sharipov.
Wynn, who defended his U.S. national rings title at the 2011 VISA Championships Aug. 20, will compete in all six events for the United States next week. With just seven months before the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Wynn will look to have a strong showing at the elite international event.
Wynn and Sharipov are two of six members on the U.S. national team from the Big Ten Conference. Other members from the Big Ten include C.J. Maestas, Tyler Mizoguchi and Paul Ruggeri from University of Illinois. Justin Springs, the head coach of the Fighting Illlini, also is part of the coaching staff for the United States.
