COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s cross country team was recently named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team.

The Scarlet and Gray compiled an overall team GPA of 3.220. Current Buckeyes Ellen Birmingham, Jordan Jennewine, Lydia Kern, Kelly Schwieterman, Brittany Wise and Emily Thompson were honored earlier in the year by the Big Ten Conference as scholar athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom.

“As a coach you always want to see your athletes improve on the course,” assistant coach Chris Neal said. “However, we also know how much our athletes are going to need their education once they leave Ohio State. I am proud that our girls are doing a great job of being successful in both athletics and academics. This is a distinction that we strive to meet every year.”

The Big East Conference and Big Ten Conference tied for the most conference members represented on the list with 11 teams each, followed by the Southeastern Conference and the Big 12 Conference with nine teams each.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.

The University of Washington was named the Scholar Team of the Year with an overall team GPA of 3.280.
