Buckeye junior picks up three wins in singles action

COLUMBUS, Ohio Junior Kirsten Flower of the Ohio State women’s team finished up action at the National Collegiate Tennis Championship (NCTC) in Indian Wells, Calif.

Flower won her opening round match on Friday against Veronica Li of Stanford, 6-2, 6-4. In the second round she faced the sixth-seeded Andrea Remynse of UCLA. Flower battled hard through the first set, but lost the opening frame, 7-5. From there, Remynse was too much, taking the second set and the match, 7-5, 6-1.

On Saturday, Flower squared off with Lynn Blau of Georgia Tech, winning 6-4, 6-1. She was unable to overcome her second opponent on Saturday, Christy Striplin of Georgia Tech, falling 7-5, 6-2. The lone match Flower played on Sunday came against Carolina Filipiak of Baylor, winning 6-2, 6-2.

Flower teamed up with UCLA freshman Jordan Dockendorf for two doubles matches this weekend. The pair fell in both, losing 8-7 (8-6) to Secerbegovic and Siwosz of Baylor and 8-3 to Li and Yen of Stanford.

Flower and the rest of the Ohio State women’s tennis team will open up the 2009 spring season Saturday at noon against Missouri at the Ohio State Varsity Tennis Center.
