COLUMBUS, Ohio The unbeaten (3-0) Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team and the 11th-ranked and undefeated (5-0) Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team will co-host the annual Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational Friday through Sunday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The meet, formatted to mimic the three-day NCAA and Big Ten Conference championships schedule, always draws an excellent field of teams and 2009 is no exception. A total of 12 schools from around the country will be sending swimmers, divers or both. The field includes Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Duke, Indiana, Minnesota, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and South Carolina.

Men’s swimming coach Bill Wadley had this to say about the 2009 Invite: “A 2009 national champion backstroker Patrick Shirk will be here leading one of the very best and deepest Penn State teams of all time.

“And Minnesota is one of the Big Ten’s finest programs, lead by coach Dennis Dale. The Golden Gophers are currently ranked ninth in the NCAA. We always enjoy competing against them and look forward to a great weekend of swimming.”

First-year women’s swimming coach Bill Dorenkott is also impressed with this year’s Invite. “We are thrilled to bring in some top flight competition for a championship format meet. Minnesota is currently the class of the Big Ten Conference in women’s swimming and diving and will provide us with a terrific gauge for the future.”
