COLUMBUS, Ohio– The No. 16 Ohio State wrestling Buckeyes won their second dual meet in as many days as they handed the visiting Panthers of Northern Iowa, the No. 17 team in the nation, a 30-3 loss Saturday at St. John Arena in Columbus. With the win, OSU improves to 6-3 overall and extends its current winning streak to six-consecutive duals following an 0-3 start. UNI fell to 4-5 on the year.

“We dominated in the scoring,” Russ Hellickson, OSU’s head coach, said. “We made some mistakes in our matches that we will have enough things to work on for a while. It came down to the end in a lot of the matches and we out-conditioned them.”

In the marquee match-up of the dual, No. 1 Tommy Rowlands (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready) battled No. 5 Paul Hynek in the heavyweight division. After falling behind early, Rowlands came back form a 7-3 deficit at the end of the second period to force sudden victory overtime with a score of 11-11. In the extra period, both wrestlers nearly scored points on takedowns with 22 seconds remaining. Rowlands secured the 13-11 victory when he scored a take-down with nine seconds remaining in the overtime period.

Of the ten Buckeyes to wrestle in the dual, eight won by decision with Kore Sharpley (Sr., Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) adding a win by forfeit in the opening weight class of 125. No. 17 Keaton Anderson (So., Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) improved his record to 17-1 overall and 9-0 in duals with an 11-4 decision over Keith Weber of UNI.

Both the Buckeyes and Panthers will return to the mat at 10 a.m. Sunday as participants in the Wendy’s Classic at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. OSU will dual with Marquette, Binghampton and host Ashland during the classic.
