COLUMBUS, Ohio With a 21-12 victory over No. 16 Boise State, the sixth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team advanced to the fifth-place bout at the 2009 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Buckeyes (7-1) will face No. 11 Minnesota at 2 p.m. EST Sunday.

The Scarlet and Gray collected seven wins against the Broncos, including four straight from 125 to 149 pounds.

One of the biggest upsets of the evening came at 133 pounds when junior Reece Humphrey of Indianapolis, Ind., defeated second-ranked Andrew Hoshstrasser, 6-4. Humphrey’s win comes after sophomore Nikko Triggas, a native of Moraga, Calif., shut out Brian Owen, 6-0, at 125 pounds.

The Buckeyes won their third-consecutive match at 141 pounds following senior J Jaggers’ 3-1 victory over Cory Fish. The Scarlet and Gray then increased its lead to 12-0 after Columbia Station, Ohio, native and junior Lance Palmer defeated Jason Chamberlain, 6-1.

Boise State got on the board at 157 pounds courtesy of a 6-2 decision by No. 4 Adam Hall over Buckeye Sean Nemec, who saw his first action in the National Duals. However, sophomore Colt Sponseller from Glenmont, Ohio, quickly added three points to the Buckeye score when he decisioned Tyler Sherfey, 8-6.

A loss by Dave Rella, a junior from Akron, Ohio, at 174 pounds to Nate Lee, 5-2, proceeded a victory by junior Mike Pucillo. A native of Strongsville, Ohio, Pucillo, beat Kirk Smith, 3-2. The Broncos earned their final win at 197 pounds thanks to a 2:02 pin by Brent Chriswell over freshman Cody Gardner. However, the Buckeyes wrapped up the match with a win by junior heavyweight Corey Morrison, a 2-1 decision over Sam Zylstra.
