COLUMBUS, Ohio The OhioState women’s volleyball team went undefeated last Saturday at the Team Indy Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. The Buckeyes faced four opponents in matches of best of three sets to 25 points. Under NCAA rule changes for the fall, games are now called sets and they are played to 25 points rather than 30 in the first four games.
In the tournament, OhioState defeated GrandValleyState, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21), Southern Illinois, 2-1 (22-25, 25-21, 15-10), Hillsdale, 2-1 (21-25, 25-18, 15-11) and IPFW, 2-1 (25-21, 22-25, 15-11).
“We saw a wide variety of styles this weekend which was great for our players to play against,” Geoff Carlston, head coach, said. “One of our goals was to respond to whatever was thrown our way and I thought for the most part we fought the whole way.
“Kristen (Dozier, So., SandySpring, Md.) really stepped up. She played every point of every match in the middle position and figured some important stuff out by the end of the tournament.
“I was impressed with Kaila (Calhoun, Fr., Elkhart, Ind.) at the end of the day. We told her she was playing too safe and needed to step up and be a leader for the team. In our last match vs. IPFW, she finally let go and made a big impact for us.”
OhioState continues spring practice and will play at the Purdue Invitational, Saturday.
