COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$Taryn Bowen (Fr., Columbus, Ohio) won a three-set match at No. 6 singles to clinch a 5-2 upset victory for the Ohio State’s women’s tennis team over No. 15 Northwestern, Saturday at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 40, improved to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten and are a perfect 8-0 at home this season. The Wildcats suffered their second-consecutive Big Ten loss, falling to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.%^$

%^$ The Buckeyes began the match by winning two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) and Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich.) posted an upset win at No. 1, defeating the No. 30-ranked duo of Katherine Nasser and Colleen Cheng, 8-2. Sadhaf Pervez (Fr., Warren, N.J.) and Laura Maloney (Jr., Barrington, Ill.) won at No. 2, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point.%^$

%^$ The Buckeyes won four of six singles matches to earn the victory. No. 32 Dascoli defeated No. 54 Nasser in two sets, while Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill.) recorded a two-set victory at No. 3 over Cheng.%^$

%^$The Wildcats won two singles matches to pull within one point, 3-2, but Bowen and Maloney each won in three sets to give the Buckeyes the win. Against NU’s Jessica Strickland at No. 6, Bowen won the first set before falling in the second. However, she rebounded in the third to clinch both her match and the win for the Buckeyes (6-3, 1-6, 6-0). After dropping the first set in her match against Jennifer Lutgert, Maloney came back to win (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).%^$

%^$ Northwestern’s Shannon Duffy recorded a tough win for the Wildcats, defeating No. 77 Rincon in the tiebreaker of a three-hour, three-set match (6-3, 5-7, 7-6) at No. 2. Lia Jackson recorded NU’s other singles win with a victory over Pervez at No. 4.%^$

%^$ The Buckeyes conclude the weekend by hosting No. 28 Illinois tomorrow at 10 a.m. The match, scheduled to be played outdoors at the Stickney Tennis Center, will be moved inside to Jesse Owens West Recreation Center in inclement weather.%^$
