Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State women’s tennis senior Erica Fisk (Indianapolis, Ind./ Pike) advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles draw and junior Jackie Leskovar (Cambridge, Ontario/ North Carolina State) also won her first round singles match on Day One of the Fall Desert Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
Fisk picked up two victories, over No. 7 seed Debbie Larocque of Arizona, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round and No. 92 ranked Michelle Krinke of Texas, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the second round. She faces No. 64 Natalie Braverman of Pepperdine in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Leskovar upset No. 3 seed and No. 93 ranked Carine Vermuelen of Southern California, 2-6, 7-6 (0), 6-3 before she was beaten in the second round, 6-3, 7-5, by Kelly Baritot of Texas.
Also on Thursday, Fisk and Leskovar teamed in doubles to defeat Bayani and Sauer of Southern California, 8-5.
Play continues in both singles and doubles at the Fall Desert Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., Friday.
