COLUMBUS, Ohio – After last week’s two-match skid, the No. 31 Ohio State Buckeyes captured a 6-1 win over No. 38 Iowa Hawkeyes today at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. The Buckeyes improve to 14-7, 6-2 in the Big Ten, while Iowa falls to 11-7, 3-4 in the Big Ten.

%^$The Hawkeyes notched the first win with Toni Neykova and Shera Wiegler upsetting No. 21- ranked Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) and Briana Harris (So., Bradenton, Fla.), 8-5. Ohio State came back to win the doubles point by winning the remaining matches. The Buckeyes would go up 1-0, after Michelle Matko (Fr., Aurora, Ill.) and Monica Rincon (Fr., Lapeer, Mich.) defeated Emily Bampton and Natalya Dawaf, 9-8 at the No. 2 spot. In a stellar match, Matko and Rincon were down 6-3, but evened the match 8-8 to force the tie breaker. The freshman duo would go on to win by taking the tie breaker, 9-7.

%^$In singles, Dascoli breezed to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Neykova at the No. 1 position. Dascoli is now 17-10 overall and remains undefeated in the Big Ten, 8-0. At the No. 2 spot, Matko would start off slow with a loss in the first set, but gained momentum to take Wiegler, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the same fashion, Harris fell 6-0, but came back to net the win 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Iowas Dawaf.

%^$Rincon clinched the win for the Buckeyes defeating Bampton, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. Iowa did capture the No. 6 position with Laura Maloney (So., Barrington, Ill.) losing 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to Iowa’s Erin Wolverton.

%^$]The Buckeyes will host the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Stickney Tennis Center, if weather permits.
