COLUMBUS,Ohio – The No. 31-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes lost to No. 23-ranked Northwestern, 6-1 and dropped their second Big Ten match in as many days at Evanston, Ill. Ohio State is now 13-7, 5-2 in Big Ten action, while the Wildcats improve to 11-4, 5-1.
Northwestern went up 1-0 after sweeping all doubles matches. Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) and partner Briana Harris (So., Bradenton, Fla.) had a five match winning streak snapped after losing to Katherine Nasser and Laura Guignon, 8-5, at the No. 1 position.
In singles, No. 49 Dascoli notched her second victory of the weekend defeating Katherine Nasser, 6-1, 6-1. The sophomore remains undefeated in Big Ten action and has compiled a 14-5 record at the No. 1 post.
However, the Wildcats would never look back by grabbing victories at all remaining singles positions.
In a dramatic ending, Monica Rincon (Fr., Lapeer, Mich.) lost to Laura Guignon in a hard fought three-set match. Rincon, after losing the first set, 6-2, would win the second in a tie breaker, 7-6 (6). Rincon went up 5-0 in the third set, but Guignon battled back to win 7-5.
OSU, after seven consecutive matches on the road, will finally be home to compete against Iowa on April 16 at 3 p.m. at the Stickney Tennis Center.
