COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s tennis team concluded play Thursday during the ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships, held at the Racquet Club of Columbus. Play began Thursday and runs through Sunday. The Buckeyes had one player competing in the singles host wild card spot and one tandem in the doubles host wild card draw of the tournament, the second of three national tournaments for the 2006-07 season.
In the 16-team doubles bracket, Julie Blackmore paired with Caitlin O’Keefe in the first match of the day for the Buckeyes to face Jenny Miccoli and Anastasia Sourkova of Brigham Young. The OSU duo was defeated by the BYU pair 8-3.
In the 32-player singles draw, Blackmore dropped her match to Zuzana Cerna of Baylor, 6-1, 7-5. Cerna came into the tournament ranked 14th in the ITA preseason women’s singles poll.
Play will continue for the Buckeyes Friday as the women move on to consolation rounds. The doubles duo will compete against Suzi Babos/Zusuzsanna Foder of California and Blackmore will face Sarah Fansler of Southern California in the singles consolation.
