COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team completed day one of the 2008 NCAA Championships Thursday at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion with all three Buckeye divers claiming Top 10 finishes on the one-meter springboard.

Freshman Bianca Alvarez of Miami, Fla., participating in her first NCAA Championships, garnered All-American honors after placing fifth on the one-meter springboard with 307.80 points. Teammate Chelsea Davis also earned All-American accolades when the junior from Columbus, Ohio finished eighth with 295.35 points.

Also placing on the one-meter was Columbus-native Kristen Asman. The freshman earned Honorable Mention All-American after finishing 10th with a score of 298.05 points.

All three Ohio State divers will next compete Friday in the three-meter event. Freshman Samantha Cheverton will be the lone Buckeye swimmer competing in the NCAA championships when she competes in the 100-yard butterfly.

The NCAA Championships continue Friday and Saturday. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. and finals begin at 7 p.m. both days. Tickets are available online at or for purchase at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Live results also are available on
