Women’s Sprints Send Eight to the Next Round

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team continued action at the 2023 NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday with the first day of women’s competition.

NCAA EAST PRELIM ROUND (SEMIFINALS)

  • 10000m: Andrea Kuhn (34:30.63) and Daniella Santos (34:32.89) both completed the 10,000m semifinals.

NCAA EAST PRELIM ROUND (FIRST ROUND)

  • 100m: Three Buckeye women qualified for the quarterfinals with three of the fastest times in program history. Yanique Dayle’s 11.05 was third overall, though wind aided. Leah Bertrand matched her program record set at the Big Ten Championships (11.08) to win her heat and finish fifth in the field. Nya Bussey’s personal-best 11.15 was eighth overall and moved her up to second in program history. Columba Effiong also competed, finishing in 11.40.
  • 200m: Both Buckeye women advance in the 200m with their fastest times of the season (albeit wind aided). Dayle had the fifth-fastest time in the field (22.59), while Bussey’s time (23.00) was good for 14th.
  • 400m: The Buckeye women had three of the top-10 qualifying times as each finished second in her heat to earn an automatic spot in the quarterfinals. Jaydan Wood was fifth (52.38), Bryannia Murphy was seventh (52.55) and Alyssa Marsh rounded out the top-10 (52.80).
  • 400m hurdles: Chanler Robinson ran her second-best time of the season (59.22).
  • Shot put: Lacey Stringer’s best mark was 15.37m / 50’3.5”, while Faith Bender threw for 13.95m / 45’9.25”.
  • Pole vault: Abbey Kuhn cleared 3.82m / 12’6.25” on her third attempt.
