Women’s Lacrosse Announces Newcomers for 2018

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team announced its latest group of newcomers on Wednesday as the Buckeyes begin preparations for the 2018 season. This year’s class of newcomers consists of eight freshmen and one junior-transfer. The class is comprised of student-athletes from six different states, including Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, North Carolina, and Minnesota.


The Class of 2021 consists of Sophie Baez (Milton, Ga./Milton), Ali Beekhuizen (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), Hannah Brink (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), Lindsey Epstein (Marietta, Ga./Walton), Riley Ewing (Marietta, Ga./Walton), Carli Mager (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), Katie McElveen (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland), Jaclyn Perkins (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day). The Buckeyes also added a member to the class of 2019 in McKayla Conti (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township).


Below is a breakdown (in alphabetical order) of each athlete and their high school accomplishments.


Sophie Baez

5’3, A, Fr.

Milton, Ga./Milton

Four-year starter and letter winner at Milton High School. Three-time Georgia State Champion. 2017 team captain and offensive player of the year. 2017 Georgia All-State First Team Selection. 2017 US Lacrosse High School All-American selection.

Ali Beekhuizen

5’6, M, Fr.

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas

Four-year letter winner and four-year starter for St. Thomas Aquinas, also named a captain for two year. Two-time US All-American her junior and senior years. State runner-ups in 2017. Three-year all-region award winner. 2017 Sun Sentinel Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. National Honor Society member.


Hannah Brink

5’7, D, Fr.

Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie

Five-year letter winner and four-year starter at Eden Prairie High School. Three-time Minnesota State Champion. Two-time team defender of the year award winner in 2014 and 2015. Two-time All-State selection in 2016 and 2017. DECA Vice-President of Competitive Events. Eden Prairie High School Student Council Member.


McKayla Conti

5’3, A, Jr.

Oakhurst, N.J./Louisville

Four-year letter winner and starter at Ocean Township High School. Also lettered four years in soccer for the Spartans. Selected for 2015 All-New Jersey U19 team. Transferred after playing two seasons at the University of Louisville. Scored 31 points on 26 goals and five assists for the Cardinals in 2017.


Lindsay Epstein

5’6, M, Fr.

Marietta, Ga./Walton

Four-year letter winner and starter at Walton High School. Three-year All-County selection. Two-time All-State selection. 2017 US Lacrosse All-American selection. 2016 Georgia State Champion. Led team in ground balls in 2016. High school teammate of fellow Buckeye Riley Ewing. Played five years of club lacrosse for the Midwestern Force.


Riley Ewing

5’10, A/M, Fr.

Marietta, Ga./Walton

Four-year letter winner and starter at Walton High school. Four-year All-State selection. Two-time All-American selection. Two-time Georgia All-Star team selection. Two-time scholar athlete award winner. 2017 Academic All-American selection. High school teammate of fellow Buckeye Lindsay Epstein. Played six years of club lacrosse for Eagle Stix. National Honor Society member. National High School Scholars Member.


Carli Mager

5’7, D, Fr.

Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown

Four-year letter winner at Yorktown High School. 2016 US Lacrosse All-American selection. Four-time New York State Scholar Athlete award winner. Lead the Cornhuskers with 37 caused turnovers her junior season. Missed senior season with a torn ACL. Played three years of club lacrosse, two for the Metro Magic and one for the House of Sports. Member of Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse.


Katie McElveen

5’8, M, Fr.

Loveland, Ohio/Loveland

Four-year letter winner and starter at Loveland High School. Two-time US Lacrosse All-American selection. Two-time Academic All-American selection. Two-time team captain. Two-time First Team All-State Selection. Loveland High School all-time leading scorer with 315 career goals. Also lettered two years in tennis and golf for the Tigers. Named Cincinnati Youth Philanthropist of the Year following her efforts to raise over $30,000 dollars to support the Ronald McDonald House Charity.


Jaclyn Perkins

5’4, M, Fr.

Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day

Three-year letter winner and starter at Charlotte Country Day. Four-time North Carolina state champion, one with Charlotte Catholic High School and three with Charlotte Country Day. 2017 US Lacrosse All-American selection. Three-time All-State selection. Two-time team MVP in junior and senior seasons. Named team captain her senior year. Led the Buccaneers in draw controls, groundballs and takeaways both her junior and senior seasons. Played six years of club lacrosse for the Midwestern Force.
