COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team (10-19-2, 7-12-2 WCHA) was defeated by the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers (19-6-5, 12-5-4 WCHA), 7-1, Friday at OSU Ice Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio State takes on Wisconsin for game two of the series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at OSU Ice Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The game will mark the final meeting between the teams during the regular season.

The first goal of the game was scored by Wisconsin’s Steph Boeckmann at 14:47. Ohio State was unable to get on the scoreboard in the first. At the end of the stanza the Badgers led 11-6 in shots.

Seven goals, six by Wisconsin and one by Ohio State, were scored during the second period. Wisconsin’s Amy Vermeulen netted at goal at 1:36. UW’s Kathy Devereaux and Jackie Friesen each recorded power-play goals at 5:29 and 8:58, respectively. Ohio State’s Heather Farrell (Jr., Perth, Ontario/Promfret/Connecticut Polar Bears) scored her sixth goal of the season at 10:03 assisted by Crystal Sayther (Fr., Burnsville, Minn./Bursnville) and Erin O’Grady (Jr., London, Ontario/Culver Academy). Wisconsin tallied three more goals during the stanza, Friesen at 13:01 and 17:27 and Michelle Sikich at 18:46. UW posted 10 shots to OSU’s four.

There was no scoring in the third period. Ohio State pressed during the stanza, recording 10 shots and holding Wisconsin to six shots.

Wisconsin outshot Ohio State 27-20. Ohio State held Wisconsin scoreless on 3-of-5 power-play opportunities. The Buckeyes were 0-for-6 on the power play.

Ohio State goalkeeper Natalie Lamme (Fr., Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) started the game and recorded 14 saves in 38:46 minutes of play, she was replaced by April Stojak (Sr., Kent, Ohio/Shattuck-St. Mary’s) saved six shots in 21:14 of play. Wisconsin’s Jackie MacMillan recorded 11 saves in 46:24 minutes and Meghan Horras tallied eight saves in 13:36 minutes
