COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior captain Erin O’Grady recorded three points as she led the Ohio State women’s ice hockey team to its fourth consecutive win in the 4-0 shutout over the Bemidji State Beavers Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio.

With the Buckeyes’ second consecutive series sweep, they improve to 5-5-0 overall and in the WCHA. The Beavers (1-10-1, 0-8-0 WCHA) winless streak continues as they record their 10th consecutive loss.

The first period ended scoreless as both teams were unable to get the puck in the net. Bemidji State came out strong, tallying 13 shots to Ohio State’s four in the period.

Ohio State took control of the game at the beginning of the second period. OSU senior Jeanne Chapple (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) scored a power play goal at 1:47 to get the Buckeyes on the scoreboard. Tessa Bonhomme (Fr., Sudbury, Ontario) and Meaghan Mulvaney (Jr., Sylvania, Ohio) assisted the goal. Senior captain Erin O’Grady (Sr., London Ontario) scored her first goal of the game, which was assisted by Bonhomme at 12:45. Despite being outshot by BSU 11-8, the Buckeyes led 2-0 on the scoreboard at the end of the second stanza.

OSU continued its momentum in the third period. O’Grady scored her second goal of the game and the season on a power play at 4:46. Freshman Amber Bowman (Fr., Innisfil, Ontario) and sophomore Jana Harrigan (So., Burlington, Ontario) assisted on the goal. Buckeye forward Harrigan tallied a goal of her own at 18:27 to secure the win for the squad. Assisting on the goal was O’Grady, who posted her third point of the game. OSU goaltender Erika Vanderveer (Fr., Bradford, Ontario) recorded 33 saves in the full 60 minutes of action. BSU’s goalie Anik Cote tallied 22 saves in 60:00 minutes.

The Beavers outshot the Buckeyes 33-26. Ohio State was 2-4 on the power play, while holding Bemidji State scoreless on all five chances.

Ohio State plays host to the Niagara Purple Eagles at 2:05 p.m. Nov. 29 and 30 in its first non-conference series of the season.


– Ohio State earned its fourth consecutive victory and second consecutive sweep of the season.

– The Buckeyes continue to lead the Beavers 11-6-3 in the all-time series.

– Freshman goaltender Erika Vanderveer earned her second shutout in only her second game in goal for the Buckeyes. Vanderveer has never allowed a goal as a Buckeyes, tallying 49 saves in two games this season (1.00 save percentage).

– Senior captain Erin O’Grady recorded her first and second goals of the season. O’Gardy has posted 20 goals in her Buckeye career.
