No. 4 Michigan wins quad-meet; Moore-Thomas places second on floor, third on vault

COLUMBUS, Ohio The 22nd-ranked Ohio State women’s gymnastics team placed third in the Cat Classic hosted by Missouri Friday night with a 193.725. The meet marked the Buckeyes’ return to the road after a two meet home stretch as they took on No. 4 Michigan, No. 14 Missouri and California. Ohio State moves to 6-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 Big Ten.

The Wolverines won the Cat Classic with a score of 196.200. Host Missouri followed in second with a 195.275 and California took fourth with a 191.000.

Senior Maalika Moore-Thomas led the Buckeyes on floor and vault. Moore-Thomas scored a 9.825 on floor to tie for second in the meet. She posted a season-high 9.850 on vault to place third in the classic.

Ohio State finished with a 48.775 on floor with its top score of  9.825 from Moore-Thomas. Freshman Rebecca Best followed on floor with a 9.775. Best took second for the Buckeyes on vault with a 9.800 and helped lead the squad on bars with a 9.725. Sophomore Beth Ann Ballard and senior Kaylan Clevinger tied Best on bars.

On vault, freshman Jessica Staton posted a season-high 9.775 to boost Ohio State’s team score to a 48.850. Ballard added a 9.725 to the Buckeyes vault score and sophomore Hillary Dow scored a 9.700 on the event.

Junior Alyssa Meyer tied Clevinger on floor with a 9.750. Meyer added a 9.700 on bars in the Buckeyes final rotation. Ohio State finished with a 48.450 on bars.

The Buckeyes will return home to end their home-season March 9 when they take on Kentucky for senior day. The squad travel to Arizona State March 14 and West Virginia March 22 before heading to the Big Ten Championships at Michigan March 29.
