%^$ COLUMBUS, Ohio – Led by a career-best performance from Sarah Spring (So., Burke, Va./Lake Braddock), the Ohio State women’s gymnastics team posted a 193.500-192.900 victory over Ball State Friday night at St. John Arena. Spring captured the all-around title with a career-high 39.050 and also won the floor exercise with a career-best 9.925.%^$

%^$ Ohio State (1-1) tied a school record on uneven bars, recording a score of 49.250 to tie the mark, previously set at Michigan Feb. 22, 1997. All five scoring Buckeyes set or tied career highs with at least a 9.8 on the apparatus, led by Mary Beth Doerr (Jr., Boston Heights, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Lindsey Vagedes (Sr., Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South), who each earned scores of 9.9. Vagedes’ mark set a career high, while Doerr’s score tied her career best.%^$

%^$ Spring was stellar on bars as well, tying her career high with a 9.825. She also took second place on vault, scoring 9.775 to take runner-up laurels to Vagedes, who won her second straight vault title, tallying a 9.875. In addition to her vault and bars titles, Vagedes also nabbed runner-up honors on floor with a 9.850.%^$

%^$ OSU also received a fine performance on balance beam from Jenni Lymanstall (Fr., Defiance, Ohio/Tinora), who tied for first place with a 9.775. Freshman Megan Porter (Elmhurst, Ill./York) put up a big score on bars, earning a 9.825 to tie with Spring for third place. Amanda Allen (Jr., Troy, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) posted a career-best 9.8 on bars for OSU’s fifth score in the event.%^$

%^$ Ball State falls to 1-1 with the defeat. Ohio State hits the road next week, traveling to Bowling Green Sunday for the All-Ohio Championships. The meet, which includes Kent State and Bowling Green, begins at 2 p.m.%^$
