%^$ COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State womens golf team inked two recruits during the early signing period. Mollie Fankhauser of Dublin and Mary Lidester of Lafayette, Ind., will bring their talents to the Scarlet and Gray links for the 1999-2000 season.%^$ %^$ Both are enjoying exceptional high school careers and bring glowing resumes to OSU. Fankhauser was named a 1998 High School All-American and a first team all-state choice in 1998. She claimed the 1998 National High School Championship, the 1998 AJGA Clubcorp Junior Players Championship and the 1997 Franklin County Womens Championship. Fankhauser also earned accolades as a 1998 second team AJGA All-American, Mid-Ohio Golfer 1998 Player of the Year, the Suburban News 1998 Player of the Year and a 610 WTVN Golfer of the Week.
%^$ “Mollie brings a great solid all-around game to Ohio State,” Ohio State head coach Therese Hession said. “She has a lot of tournament experience and has done very well in many local, state and national events. I look forward to Mollie being a four-year starter and having a very successful career for the Buckeyes.”%^$ %^$ Lidester was runner-up in the 1998 Indiana state high school championship. She was the winner of the 1997 Legends of Indiana and finished in the top 16 of the 1998 U.S. Junior Girls Championship. Lidester was also named to the 1998 Indiana All-State and the All-Conference teams. Lidester earned the 1998 Mental Attitude Award and the 1998 Principals Award, which goes to student-athletes that attain a GPA of 3.8 or higher. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. In addition to golf, Lidester participates on the basketball and track teams.
%^$ “Mary is a dedicated, hard-working young lady with great desire to reach the LPGA,” Hession said. “With her work ethic, I look for Mary to elevate her game and be very competitive on our team, in the conference and everywhere we play.”
%^$ Coach Hession has guided Ohio State to two Big Ten titles and five NCAA tournament appearances in her seven years at the helm.
