COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team stands in second place after two rounds of the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, held at the par-72 OSU Scarlet Course on Saturday. OSU’s 36-hole total of 626 left the Buckeyes in a second-place tie with Kent, two strokes behind leader Michigan State.
The scores ballooned throughout the day as players endured the damp, windy and brisk conditions at the Scarlet Course. No team scored lower than 310 in a round, while no player shot a round under par.
Mollie Fankhauser (Fr., Dublin, Ohio) paced the Buckeyes with a 152 (+8), including a 74 in the second round – the low individual round of the tournament. She stands one stroke back of leader Kasey Gant of Michigan State, who fired rounds of 75 and 76 to grab the lead. Lisa Strom (Sr., North Wales, Pa.) also provided some solid scores for the Buckeyes, carding back-to-back rounds of 78 en route to a seventh-place standing after two rounds.
Natalie Aber (So., Akron, Ohio) shot a career-low 76 (+4) in the first round and moved into a tie for 11th place after finishing with a two-round total of 157. Kelly Moskal (So., Hinckley, Ohio), competing as an individual, fired a 158 (+14) and stands in a tie for 17th place.
The teams return to the Scarlet Course on Sunday morning with action teeing off with an 8:30 shotgun start.
