Buckeyes Finish Up Competition at Jim Green Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field program completed day two of the season-opening Jim Green Invite hosted by the University of Kentucky. The Buckeyes claimed six top five finishes and sophomore Adelaide Aquilla registered a new personal best throw in shot put (16.77-meters) claiming the title.

In addition to its success in the shot put on Saturday, Ohio State also had an impressive showing in the 3,000-meter run. Two Buckeyes – senior Lainey Studebaker and freshman Allie Guagenti – were among the top four finishers, with Studebaker taking first place.

While no team scores were kept, Ohio State did stack up well against a field of 17 other teams, three on which were in-state foes: Cincinnati, Dayton and Xavier.

Top Five Finishes

  • Adelaide Aquilla opened her sophomore campaign with first place finish in the women’s shot put with a career-time throw of 16.77-meters.• Senior distance specialist, Abby Nichols, claimed silver in the women’s mile run with a time of 4:53.70.
  • Junior Mary Figler and freshman Gia Napolean registered a second and third place finish in the 800-meter run respectively. Figler crossed the finish line at 2:11.90 and Napolean at 2:12.93.
  • Studebaker won the 3,000-meter run title with a time of 9:46.48 and Guagenti placed fourth with a time of 9:59.4

The Buckeyes will travel up north to take on the Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invitational hosted by Michigan on Jan. 18.
