South Bend, Ind. – Running in its first race as a ranked team in 2017, the No. 26 Ohio State women’s cross country team took eighth place at the 62nd annual Joe Piane Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Burke Golf Course.

Women’s Recap
In a field full of All-Americans and ranked teams, Ohio State ran together as a team for the whole race and finished with an eight second spread, but that was only good enough for eighth place as a team with 266 points.

All five of Ohio State’s scorers ran within 20 meters of each other for a large majority of the race. Sarah Kanney and Abby Nichols took the Buckeyes through the first mile in 5:17. Emily Stoodley was the first Scarlet and Gray runner to reach the four kilometer mark and closed out the final 1,000 meters of the race in about three and a half minutes to finish in 51st place with a personal-best 5k time of 17:20.4.

Just off Stoodley’s pace was sophomore Lainey Studebaker. The Dayton, Ohio native, registered a personal best of her own clocking a readout of 17:21.9 to take 52nd place. Kanney was the third Buckeye to cross the finish line with a clocking of 17:24.0 (personal best) for 54th place.

Christie Frederick (17:26.2) and Nichols (17:28.0/personal best) finished off the scoring for Ohio State with 56th and 58th-place finishes, respectively.
