COLUMBUS, Ohio The No. 16 Ohio State women’s lacrosse team topped Canisius, 15-9, Sunday afternoon in blustery conditions at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Buckeyes, now 9-1, are off to the best start in school history. This was the seventh consecutive win for Ohio State.

Senior Kristen Gilwee, now 8-1 on the season, set the Ohio State career record for wins by a goalie; her four-year mark is now 27-21. Gilwee, with 12 saves against Canisius, also has set an OSU career mark for most saves. The Hunt Valley, Md., native now has 453 career saves. Megan Barnett (1999-2001) held both those Buckeye records previously.

“I’m very happy we won, but we have to learn to play better in the rain,” said Ohio State coach Sue Stimmel. “We didn’t play our best but I give Canisius credit. They did a very good job playing against a ranked team.”
