COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alex Wimmers’ complete game, 14-strikeout performance in the Buckeyes’ 7-1 win over Indiana Friday earned him his second Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor of 2010, the conference office announced Monday.

The preseason All-American scattered six hits, gave up just one run and did not walk a batter in his longest outing of the season. With the win, Wimmers became the first Buckeye starter to begin a season 7-0 since Cory Luebke did so in 2007.

It was the sixth career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award for the junior right-hander, a 2010 member of the Golden Spikes Award watch list given to the best college baseball player in country.
