COLUMBUS, Ohio—Will Grimmer has received a sponsor’s exemption to compete in the PGA Tour Memorial Tournament event, hosted by Jack Nicklaus on May 27—June 2 at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Grimmer has had a standout senior season for the Buckeyes, earning him his second career victory, a spot on the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup team and now the opportunity to play in the Memorial Tournament.
Today, last year’s tournament winner Bryson DeChambeau will host a press conference then the media will get to play the course in a four man scramble golf outing, highlighted by Grimmer hitting the first tee shot for every group.
Grimmer has qualified for two U.S. Opens in his young career, playing in his first as a high school student in 2014 at Pinehurst No. 2, and his second this past year at Shinnecock Hills where he fired rounds of 73-72 to qualify for the weekend. Qualifying for the 2018 U.S. Open earned Grimmer a spot in his fifth consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach where he carded 73-72 to qualify for match play for the second time in his career (Olympia Fields, 2015).
The recent graduate turned in a solid Buckeye career, competing in every event for Ohio State over his four years and coming out with a 72.48 stroke average. Grimmer notched two victories in his time, winning the 2016 Bearcat Invitational as a sophomore and blowing the field away at the 2018 Musketeer Classic, winning by an 11-stroke margin. This season alone, he has carded nine rounds in the 60s and 13 rounds of par or better which have helped him to four top-5 and six top-10 finishes.
Before Will suits up to play at the Memorial, he first tees it up with the rest of the Scarlet and Gray at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional on May 13-15 at TPC Myrtle Beach.
