COLUMBUS, Ohio – Will Grimmer picked up Co-Big Ten Golfer of the Week recognition on Wednesday (Sept. 28), honored by the conference office for his individual medalist performance at the Bearcat Invitational. Grimmer shares the award with Michigan’s Kyle Mueller, who also won an individual title (Windon Memorial Classic).
Grimmer cleared the entire field by four strokes to claim medalist honors at the Bearcat Invitational, out-playing 59 competitors for his first collegiate individual crown. Playing in front of a large gathered group of family and friends, the Cincinnati native rattled off rounds of 69-67-71 (207) to dip six shots below par.
Grimmer became the 47th different Buckeye to earn medalist accolades since 1974. The OSU group of tournament champions has totaled 125 titles in the last 42 years. In 13 career events, the sophomore has registered three Top-10 and eight Top-25 performances. Grimmer dominated on Par-3 and Par-4 holes, pacing the field in aggregate scoring of both hole lengths at 2-under for each. His dozen birdies were tied for the most among all competitors.
