Buckeye freshman has goal and two assists in 11-0 victory against Russia
COLUMBUS, Ohio Natalie Spooner, a freshman forward on the Ohio State women’s hockey team, scored three points for the Canadian National Women’s Under-22 Team as they defeated Russia, 11-0, Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the 2009 MLP Cup in Ravensberg, Germany.

After being held without a point in the first game against Finland, Spooner two assists in the second period and a goal in the third in the decisive victory over the Russians.

Team Canada awaits the winner of the Germany and Sweden Sunday and will play in their semifinal game Monday. Canada is the six-time defending champion at the MLP Cup, having won every year since the tournament’s inception in 2003 and losing only once in 22 games.

Spooner has had a strong start to her Buckeye career, leading the team in goals (17) and ranking second in points (22) despite missing six games this season. She missed two series in November while competing with the silver medal-winning Canadian National Team at the 2008 Four Nations Cup at Lake Placid, N.Y.
