Junior forward part of “My Story” CBJ series with NHL’s “Hockey is for Everyone” campaign
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Michele Tonnessen, a junior forward on the Ohio State women’s hockey team, is featured in a “My Story” video on the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Web site (http://www.bluejackets.nhl.com/). The Buckeye from Gahanna discusses growing up as a hockey player in Ohio and representing her home state while playing at Ohio State.
Last Monday, Tonnessen stood with the team during the national anthem as part of the Blue Jackets’ celebration of the National Hockey League’s “Hockey is for Everyone” campaign in the month of February. She is the only Central Ohio native currently on the Ohio State women’s hockey roster and worked her way as a walk-on to a scholarship player. She is a product of Gahanna Lincoln High School and also played with the Ohio Flames.
Tonnessen grew up watching the Ohio State women’s hockey team, now in its 10th season, and dreamed of someday wearing the Scarlet and Gray sweater. She notes that the best thing about being a Buckeye is “being able to represent my home state of Ohio.”
