Senior co-captain Hayley Klassen scores lone Ohio State goal
BEMIDJI, Minn. The Ohio State women’s hockey team concluded its series at Bemidji State with a 3-1 loss Saturday at John Glas Fieldhouse in Bemidji, Minn. The Buckeyes and Beavers now have identical overall records of 6-17-3, with Ohio State 4-14-2-2 and Bemidji State 3-16-1-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Bemidji State built a 3-0 lead over two periods, scoring twice in the first and once in the second. The Beavers opened with two power play goals. The first one came at 3:27 when Erin Johnson’s shot off the rebound of Annie Bauerfeld trickled into the back of the net. Montana Vichorek picked up the second assist.

Bauerfeld and Vichorek combined again to set up a BSU power play goal at 7:24 with Erin Cody scoring from the goal crease.

In the second period, Bemidji State upped its lead to three goals when Nicole Rawlings scored from the left side off an assist by Lexy Parenteau.

The Buckeyes erased the shutout in the third period when they took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play. Kim Theut backhanded the puck from along the boards to fellow rookie Laura McIntosh at the top of the left circle. She shot it toward the net with senior co-captain Hayley Klassen knocking in the rebound from the right corner.

The goal was Klassen’s second of the series and fourth point on the weekend. She is now tied for second on the Buckeyes in points with 25 (11g, 14a). McIntosh increased her team leads in points to 31 and assists to 24.

Bonanno finished with 30 saves and is 5-13-2 this season. Bemidji State’s Zuzana Tomcikova made 29 saves to improve to 5-14-2.

The Buckeyes were 1-of-5 on the power play while BSU was 2-of-7.

The defeat snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak Ohio State held against the Beavers.

Up next, the Buckeyes travel to Wisconsin to face the second-ranked Badgers, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
