Freshman Krauter ties for first on beam with 9.850

COLUMBUS, Ohio The No. 21 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team posted a 194.625 to open its season on the road at No. 12 Arkansas Friday. The Razorbacks won the meet with a score of 195.775 in their first home meet of the year.

Ohio State was led by a different gymnast on each event. Freshman Nicole Krauter opened her collegiate career tying for first place on beam with a 9.850 and boosting the Buckeyes team beam score to a 48.625. Krauter added a 9.750 on floor.

Freshman Taylor Jones took second in the meet on floor with a 9.825 and junior Beth Ann Ballard placed second on bars with a 9.800. Both scores were team bests for Ohio State.

Sophomore Rebecca Best led the Buckeyes on vault with a 9.800. On beam, Best tied with senior teammate, Kiki Holman, with a mark of 9.750 to place second for Ohio State. 

On floor, the Buckeyes scored an event-high 48.825. The Buckeyes had five gymnasts score at or above a 9.700. Junior Hillary Dow and senior Alyssa Meyer both recorded a 9.775 on floor, as well as on bars.

Other top scores for the Buckeyes in their opening meet included Jones with a 9.725 on bars and Holman with a 9.70 on floor.

Ohio State finished with a team score of 48.750 on bars and a 48.375 on vault.

The Buckeyes look to open their home season in St. John Arena at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 as they take on Maryland.
