KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Buckeye sophomore Daniel Wetterich performed well throughout a 36-hole day to open the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, posting scores of 71-70 (-1) to earn a share of 14th place overall among 93 players. Fellow underclassman Jeg Coughlin III, a freshman from Delaware, Ohio, joined Wetterich in the Top-25. He is tied for the 25th slot at even par (73-69).
Unfortunately, Coughlin III’s efforts did not count for the Buckeye team total as he is competing as an individual. The five-member Ohio State lineup finished the day at 12-over (289-291) and slotted 11th in the 16-team field.
Will Grimmer came out of the gates on fire, carding a 3-under 68 in the opening round. He was tied for third and just two strokes off the pace before slipping a bit in the second trip around the course, registering a 5-over 76 and settling in at T-41st for the day.
Josh Wick (74-73) contributed a pair of scores to the team tally and is tied for 61st on the individual leaderboard.
