COLUMBUS, Ohio. – Playing in a US Amateur qualifier on Ohio State’s home course, rising seniors Daniel Wetterich and Caleb Ramirez claimed the lone two qualifying spots for next month’s event which will be played at famed Pebble Beach.

That will make a total of three Buckeyes in the field as Will Grimmer earned his spot by qualifying for this summer’s US Open, in which he made the cut.

Wetterich, who was an All-Big Ten honoree this season, took medalist honors on Tuesday as he was the only player under par following rounds of 71-70 (-1). Ramirez opened with a round of 1-under 70 and posted a 75 in the afternoon to take the second spot by one shot at 3-over 145.

Fellow Buckeyes Justin Wick, Jack Mancinotti and Kevin Stone also played well Tuesday. Wick and Mancinotti both finished two shots behind Ramirez and Wick won the playoff for the second alternate position. Stone was just a couple of shots back of that group after rounds of 74-76.

The US Amateur will be played at two of America’s top courses on the west course in Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill. The stroke play portion will take place on on both courses on August 13-14 with match play being contested at Pebble Beach through August 19.
