Where Are They Now: Gina Pietras Spohn
Graduation: 1997 (Summa Cum Laude)
Education: BS in Mathematics, Honors Distinction, with a minor in Liberal Arts
What is she doing now? Since graduation, Gina has worn many athletic and professional hats. She trained full-time with the US National Team, coached, was a substitute teacher, a retirement plan specialist, a medical assistant, medical student, and now, a doctor! She earned her MD from The Ohio State University and has since joined a private practice in dermatology in Florida.
Accolades: Four-time US Collegiate National Champion, four-time All American, fifth synchronized swimmer to be awarded Big Ten Medal of Honor
Advice to Buckeyes: “Practice hard every day and be good to your body, mind and spirit. Remember that there is more to life than synchro – so study hard, too. Enjoy your 4 years because they go by quickly!”
Favorite memory: 1997 Championship due to the tight competition
Favorite OSU location: “Larkins Pool: the synchro team’s locker room – great for studying, stretching and changing!”
