Columbus, Ohio – Senior Kerry Adderly (Orlando, Fla.) and freshman Karley Walek (Pequannock, N.J.) combined to win the annual Ohio State Mixed Pairs Championship as the Ohio State men’s and women’s gymnastics squad competed in an intersquad event Sunday afternoon in St. John Arena. The pair posted a 56.625 to claim the championship.

The event began with 10 pairs in the first rotation. The top seven duos advanced to the second rotation and four teams then qualified for the third and final rotation.

In the first rotation, Walek scored a 9.675 on floor to push her team into first place. She recorded a 9.250 on vault in the second rotation and capped the afternoon with a 9.550 on beam. Adderly scored an 9.400 on vault, 9.400 on floor and a 9.350 on high bar.

“It was good to get going again in competition,” Miles Avery, men’s head coach, said. “The competition served its purpose. It just helped us get ready for the season.”

The duo of Maalika Moore (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) and Willie Ito (So., Huntington Beach, Calif.) placed second with a score of 55.650. Kaylin Schlecht (Jr., Marion, Ohio) and Grant Osborn (So., Fort Collins, Colo.) compiled 55.075 points and landed in third place.

“Overall, I thought the freshman performed well and showed they can compete under pressure,” Carey Fagan, women’s head coach, said. “Some people stepped up and performed well but we need more people to step up and help make this team better. We still need some work but I know we will be ready for January.”
